This button-down shirt is made from checked fabric woven in Madras (now Chennai), southeastern India, an essential element of the Ivy League style of the 1950s and 60s. It features a unique texture and color that is difficult to achieve with domestically produced fabrics, and the sides and armholes are finished with double-needle rolled seams. A TRUE MADRAS label is sewn onto the collar, and custom-made three-hole shell buttons are used on the front.
