Named for the Tanigawa Mountain in Japan, Snow Peak was born in 1958 when founder Yukio Yamai sought to create innovative mountaineering gear after years of expeditions on aforementioned mountain. In 1980, with a significant increase in camping enthusiasts spreading through Japan, came a shift for the brand. They directed their focus on creating highly innovative products that were at the same time functional, of the highest quality, timelessly durable and of thoughtfully considered design, "shifting its focus from the mountaineering equipment of our past to the camping equipment of our future".
