An argyle is a weaving or knitting pattern composed of diamond shapes, often interlocking with thinner diagonal checks. The Argyle Chest Pocket Shirt is based on the Millwheel Shirt, with a diagonally angled square chest pocket forming an argyle pattern at the top of the left front panel. Argyles are a loose adaptation of the Clan Campbell tartan from Argyle in the West of Scotland, and were popularised in the early
Twentieth Century by the Duke ofWindsor.
Table cloth stripe is a double faced fabric, similar to a heavier madras, reproduced from the design of a mid-20th Century tablecloth. Each stripe switches colours from one side to the other, creating an air channel. This gives the fabric body and thickness while retaining softness and air flow.
Kaldi, a goatherd in what is now Ethiopia, noticed the vigour in his animals when they nibbled the berries of a certain bush, and tried one himself. He was so excited by the results that he picked a basket of the berries and brought them to his village. A monk declared the effects to be the work of the devil, and threw the berries into the fire, but the roasting smell was so delicious that he changed his mind, and placed the charred beans in a jug of hot water, making the first pot of coffee. Coffee dyed garments are the result of six months’ experimentation to reach this soft brown dye.
